| Play Dough 1 cup flour 1/2 cup salt 1 tsp. cream of tartar 1 cup water 2 tsp. vegetable oil 2 tsp. vanilla food coloring (I used 12 drops) In a medium non stick saucepan, mix all dry ingredients. Combine the liquid ingredients and add to the dry ingredients. Mix well. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until it pulls away from the sides of the pan and forms a ball. It will be the consistency of mashed potatoes. Remove from the heat. When cool enough to handle, you can knead the dough a little to incorporate any lumps and shape into a ball or a disc. Store in a zip lock bag. The dough will keep for several weeks if you store it in an airtight container or zip lock bag between play sessions. If you want to make more than one color of play dough from one batch, add the food color to the dough after it is cool enough to handle. Divide the dough and knead the food color of your choice into each portion of dough. |
