| Apple Crisp Recipe 3 pounds granny smith apples (9 medium apples) 1/4 cup flour 1/4 cup brown sugar 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1 1/4 cups flour 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed 3/4 cup white sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon 12 T (1 1/2 sticks) butter, cold, cut in pieces 1/2 cup chopped nuts, your choice, optional Preheat oven to 350 F. Spray a 9 x 13 baking dish with vegetable spray. Peel, core and slice apples and place in the baking dish. In a small bowl, combine 1/4 cup flour, 1/4 cup brown sugar and 1/2 tsp cinnamon. Add to the apples and toss until coated. In a medium bowl with a pastry blender or using a stand mixer, combine the remaining flour, brown sugar, white sugar and cinnamon. Using the pastry blender or mixer, cut in the butter until crisp mixture is crumbly. Add nuts if desired and spread evenly over apples. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-60 minutes, or until the crisp is browned and apples are tender and bubbly. Let cool slightly before serving. Serve à la mode with ice cream or sweetened whipped cream. Refrigerate any leftovers. Serves 6-8. |
