4 large onions, thinly sliced
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
2 T balsamic vinegar
1/2 tsp. salt

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Stir in the  onions and salt and cover. Cook for 5 minutes or until the onions  have softened slightly.
Uncover and sauté, stirring frequently, until tender and nicely  browned. This should take around 20-25 minutes.
Remove from the heat and stir in the balsamic vinegar.
This can be served hot or cold.
